The first UK-Africa Summit takes place in London

The United Kingdom looks for stronger ties with Africa in the wake of Brexit.

UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, hosted the first UK-Africa Investment Summit on Monday, the 20th of January, 2020. The Summit was a gathering of leaders from twenty-one African countries, entrepreneurs and investors and British Politicians, businesses, investors and captains of industry in London with a view to connecting businesses, entrepreneurs and investors to build new connections and collaborative relationships to create economic, investment and employment opportunities for sustainable investment and growth.


Why Africa?

  • By 2050, over two billion people will live in Africa
  • One in four global consumers will be African
  • Sixty percent of the population is under the age of twenty five
  • Africa is home to eight of the fifteen fastest growing economies

The event was attended by Heads of State and Governments from twenty-one countries, young entrepreneurs, technology experts and business leaders.

"The UK-Africa Investment Summit on 20 January 2020 laid the foundations for new partnerships between the UK and African nations based on trade, investment, shared values and mutual interest. Billions of pounds of new commercial deals were announced highlighting the strength of the UK’s offer and existing relationship with Africa. The UK also announced new initiatives and funding which will: strengthen the joint trading relationship, support African countries in their ambition to transform their economies, launch a major new partnership with the city of London, turbo-charge infrastructure financing, and enable Africa’s clean energy potential. Taken together, this will help to realise the UK’s ambition to be the investment partner of choice for Africa, create hundreds of thousands of jobs and ensure the mutual prosperity of all our nations".
